Top 10 Foods in NYP That Will Change Your Life!

Its another week in NYP!  Freshmen, by now you should be familiar with all our canteens? But, just in case you have missed like The Best food in NYP, here are some of my top favourites.

#1 Dry Noodles (??)
Location: Ban Mian / Fish Soup, South Canteen Blk P, Level 2
Opening Hours: Mon - Fri: 7.30am - 7.00pm | Sat: Closed

South Canteen the heartland of our design schools! Located at Block P Level 2, South Canteens Ban Mian store offers piping hot hand-made noodles prepared on the spot. But its the oh-so-popular savoury Gan Mian (dry noodles) that is the must-try. If dry noodles are not up your alley, there is still a multitude of different types of soupy noodles for you to choose from, topped with delicious fresh fish. You can even add milk to your noodles for that extra oomph.

* The lunch crowd may not be queue-friendly, so go early or be prepared to wait.
** Do utilise the crowd cam function via the NYP Mobile app to have a quick look at the crowd!

#2 Each a Cup
Location: Each a Cup Bubble Tea, South Canteen, Blk P, Level 2
Opening Hours: Mon - Fri: 7.30am - 7.00pm | Sat: Closed

Lectures after lectures can have us feeling rather exhausted. No More Gong Cha? Dont worry, theres always time for a quick sugar fix! Head down to our one-and-only, faithfully remaining bubble tea shop, located at the South Canteen. From highly-popular fruity iced blends to the classic milk tea, every sip is special!

#3 Kaki Fuyong
Location: Japanese Cuisine, South Canteen, Blk P, Level 2
Opening Hours: Mon - Fri: 7.30am - 7.00pm | Sat: Closed

Featured on The Smart Local, NYPs Kaki Fuyong at South Canteen just has to be on this list. Highly affordable yet so filling, this teriyaki chicken and egg combo never fails to brighten up anyones day. Whenever I find myself in the area, this is the first dish that comes to mind.

* The lunch crowd may not be queue-friendly, but dont worry, this queue tends to move quite smoothly
** Do utilize the crowd cam function via the NYP Mobile app to have a quick look at the crowd!

#4 Mala Hot Pot (??)
Location: International Mart, Food Connect, Block A Level 2
Opening Hours: Mon - Fri: 7.30am - 9.00pm | Sat: 7.30am - 2.00pm

Dare to try the fearsome Mala (??)? Many students have shed tears and gotten endless refills of beverages after trying this. Although Koufu and Foodgle offers Mala, I feel that this version is the most authentic version. You can enjoy the Mala-in-a-basket experience or even have it in a cup, and eat it while walking to your lessons.

You might want to bring tissues and drinks with you. For students who have not tried Mala (??), this devilishly-spicy dish allows you to pick your favorite ingredients, and the chef will toss them into a wok of spices. You can even choose your spice tolerance. With varying levels of spiciness, from non-spicy to numbingly-spicy, you can be as adventurous as you want. Be warned though, even the lowest level of spiciness is quite spicy. Dont forget to drag your friends along with you to spice up your week :D

* Do expect long queues and waiting times of approximately 15mins during peak hours!

#5 LCaf
Location: NYP Library, Block A Level 4
Opening Hours: Mon-Fri: 9.30am 7pm | Sat, Sun, PH, Semester Break: Closed

For students seeking a cool spot around campus with abundant power sockets, look no further! NYPs very own library cafe has everything you need. Located at the Central Wing, LCaf has beverage favorites like cappuccinos and lattes. There are also delicious pastries and lasagnas that are guaranteed to hit the spot.

* Do note that sale of food and drinks is only available till 5.00pm on weekdays.
** Popular food items run out quick, be sure to get them early!

Ready to kick-start your day with a Crunch? Messy Munch is here with its own modern and innovative twist to the traditional crepe! You can expect to be greeted with popular sweet crepes topped with berries, ice-cream and doused in rich chocolate sauce, or choose savoury ingredients like scrambled eggs, nacho cheese and diced tomatoes. Its a beautiful mess wrapped around a crispy crepe shell. Try out this on-the-go snack with your friends today.

#7 Salad Bar & Pizza
Location: SIT, Foodgle Hub Blk P1 Basement (One Level Below the Sheltered Carpark)

Did you know that NYP has quite a few salad bars? At Foodgle Hub, the Salad Bar & Pizza store strikes a balance between guilty-pleasures and healthy-eating, offering beloved classics like Hawaiian pizza slices right up to pretty salad bowls like the one above! The prices are reasonable too.

QUICK BITES

#8 Nuggets
Location: Nasi Padang, North Canteen, Blk E, Level 2
Opening Hours: Mon Fri: 7.30am 7.30 pm | Sat: 7.30am 2.00pm

Ask around any SBM student how they survive long hours of tutorials, theyll probably tell you about the North Canteens nuggets!  Drop by the nasi padang store (closest to block D) and the friendly makciks are more than happy to provide you with delectable finger food.  The nuggets are fried fresh all day. The best part there is a separate queue for these quick bites, so you can get back to tutorials quickly without missing out much!

* PS: There are also nuggets available at South Canteens snack stall and FoodCentral.

#9 Waffles
Location: Creamy Duck, Food Connect, Block A Level 2 (Near Escalator Towards SBM Block)
Opening Hours: Mon - Fri: 7.30am - 9.00pm | Sat: 7.30am - 2.00pm

You cant go wrong this pairing. Head down to Creamy Duck at International Mart to get your favorite waffle! You can pair it with sweet or savory items, so theres a perfect combination for everyone in NYP. One personal favorite of mine would be the Mao Shan Wang (???) durian filling, perfect for days when the weather is hot and humid. Just a fair warning, these sweet treats are addictive!

#10 Prata Roll
Location: Food Cart, Koufu, Blk A, Level 2
Opening Hours: Mon Fri: 7.30am 7.30pm | Sat: 7.30am 2.00pm

Craving for some delicious pasar-malam inspired food? Koufus Prata Roll is here to save the day! Pick from Taiwan, black pepper and cheese sausages. The sausage is wrapped in crispy prata and is very filling and satisfying, perfect if you are rushing for classes but dont have time for a sit-down meal.
